Students' Choice of Reading Locations
Before I address how I would set up my reading areas, I think it is important to address how I would organize reading areas or nooks in the classroom. I found a few ideas which would allow for students to pick a spot to read and be held accountable for that choice by putting on a display. This would encourage students to build up their reading stamina over time by keeping distractions to a minimum.

Reading Area Ideas
|
The reading area ideas I have included in this slideshow are places that would be beneficial to students' reading development. The areas are fun and exciting and should make students want to read! I especially like the idea of using the inflatable pool. This could be a seasonal thing for the beginning or end of the school year where a few students would be able to sit in the pool and read! In order to keep the number of students in any particular area manageable, I would use something like the charts above to have students in a routine where they stick to their reading spot during reading time.
